Introduction and brief history

Nunchaku-do is a relatively new martial art, which focuses exclusively on the nunchaku; a centuries-old weapon, made famous by the legendary Bruce Lee.

The nunchaku is the foundation on which the sport is built. Its modern-day incarnation: the official WNA Safety Nunchaku, makes it possible for two fighters to safely and legally engage each other in the duels that are the most popular discipline of Nunchaku-do, kumite. Other disciplines are kata, freestyle and Jutsu.

The founder of the sport is Milco Lambrecht (1963, the Netherlands). Through the years many technical committees and experts joined the WNA board.

The World Nunchaku Association (WNA) promotes the sport around the globe and has branches in many countries. To clearly distinguish Nunchaku-do from other nunchaku sports, it is sometimes referred to as “WNA Nunchaku-do” or “WNA style nunchaku”.

ROYAL AWARD NUNCHAKU-DO ⬇

One of the highest Royal honours

Milco Lambrecht (1963) received one of the highest Royal honours in 2014 for his many years of commitment to martial arts and in particular for Nunchaku-do. On behalf of the King of the Netherlands, Milco Lambrecht was knighted by the mayor of Amstelveen in the Order of Oranje-Nassau. A special recognition for someone who is involved in martial arts. This was a pinnacle during the many years of work he has done to turn Nunchaku-do into an independent state-recognized sport. Milco Lambrecht is currently still on the board of the Dutch Nunchaku Foundation (SNN) and the World Nunchaku Association (WNA).
